Key Takeaways

Here are my top three takeaways from my conversation with Megan Hyatt Miller.

Recognize the Narrator

You know that voice in your head that keeps you safe, but sometimes holds you back from doing the big things!?

I’m constantly having conversations in my brain and oftentimes those conversations come from a place of scarcity or nervousness about what’s to come.

Megan highlighted that this is totally normal! This is because your brain is just trying to protect you from really big life-threatening dangers.

Although speaking in front of an audience, leaving your soul-sucking job for a life as an entrepreneur, or investing in your first index fund might feel nerve-racking … you’re not in mortal danger.

Our narrator is just trying to do their job but it really could be holding you back from a better life.

Change Your Story

I liked when Megan shared that her Dad (Michael Hyatt) was told at a younger age that he was “not good with money.” Subconsciously that stuck with him for decades.

He had the opportunity to improve his financial savvy, but that negative narrator told him that he was no good with money.

Long story short, Michael Hyatt is an owner of a successful family business and surely is a multi-millionaire at this point.

Megan’s point was that you can change your story. Just because someone thought one way about you or even you think a certain way about yourself, doesn’t mean you can’t change that thinking.

You’re in control.

Find Better News Sources

If you oftentimes find yourself consuming negative news stories or talking with people who only share negative news or gossip, it’s time to change the channel. Change the channel on your news sources literally and figuratively.

Surround yourself with positive words, people who want to see you succeed, and news that gets you fired up about your future. We only get this one life so don’t let toxic news take over.

And honestly, this starts with us. Share the good news, be a positive light, and take action that inspires positive change.

We need to be that positive change.
