This past week, we received a lot of negative feedback for paying off our mortgage early. There was name-calling, swear words and someone even said “you are ruining people's lives!” Woah, yikes.
While we're very happy with our decision, we realize it's not for everyone.
Nicole and I review why people may be throwing shade about our paid-off house and share the reasons we love our mortgage freedom.

Just wanted to give a shout out to echo your thoughts on paying off a mortgage. We paid off our mortgage in 2018 (I was 32, husband was 41) and the freedom I feel on a daily basis is priceless. I was able to move to more part-time job and I do not feel like a slave to my job which helps me manage work stress better. I totally agree that it is individual’s choice and comfort level as far as mortgage versus investing (or neither!) – I have friends with mountains of debt but it doesn’t bother them. It bothered me – I brought my husband along – and I will never regret the journey and choice to pay off our mortgage early.
Thank you so much for these kind words! Nicole and I gave you a shoutout on our most recent episode of Bread & Wine! You inspired our whole episode :)
